American Whitewater 2020 CA Release Schedules

It’s that time of the year again when American Whitewater starts to coordinate scheduled whitewater releases negotiated on the hydropower projects we work on across the state. As per usual I will try to keep a running tab of the scheduled flows on this thread!

Here goes…

American Whitewater participated in the Upper American River Project Consultation Meeting to set the scheduled recreational flows for Ice House and Slab Creek. We have mapped out the possible flows for 2020 with Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), California Outdoors, the U. S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the State Water Resource Control Board. While all current conditions point to a Dry Water Year, following is the flow schedule for four possible water year type scenarios:

Note that the water year type will be determined by the May California Department of Water Resources Bulletin 120 " Report of Water Conditions in California". So stay tuned the final schedule will be posted on the AW Calendar once we know the final water year type.

OPPORTUNISTIC FLOWS ON SLAB CREEK ENDING IN APRIL

Heads up paddlers the opportunistic flows on Slab Creek will end around April 10 when SMUD will resume diversion of flow to the White Rock Tunnel. So get out there and enjoy what you can! If this date changes I’ll post it here.

FINALLY SOME DATES TO SHARE

American Whitewater has been doing what we can to work with PG&E and the managing agencies on scheduled recreational releases for the Mokelumne, North Fork Feather and the PIT. Please keep in mind these dates can change as we navigate COVID 19.

Mokelumne River (CA) - July 12th & 19th Scheduled Releases Postponed

Scheduled recreational flows on the Mokelumne Electra run for July 12 and 19 are postponed due to the current status of COVID 19 in Amador County. Pacific Gas & Electric(PG&E), American Whitewater, Foothill Conservancy and managing agencies will conference again to determine whether the July 26 date will have to be rescheduled and AW will keep paddlers updated on alternate dates in the future. PG&E assures us that they can be flexible with scheduled recreational flows on Electra and can make up for July 12 and 19 cancelation at a later date if the status of COVID 19 will allow it. Stay tuned.
